History of SNAFU:

From the beginning, SNAFU has been a team consisting of close friends.  We've had some changes over the years since SNAFU's inception (originally known as The Diamond Long Shots).  The original Team Captain, Jason McClure, had to step down due to being overextended in his commitments shortly after the second session began.  Deborah McClure stepped up and took over for him with the help of co-captain Cindy Nance (Cindy Davis at the time).  The original team consisted of Jason McClure, Deborah McClure, Cindy Nance, Dona Kindred, Mark Zymewski, and Peter Kessler.   A short time later, the team was joined by Steve Parker.

This was the team known as The Diamond Long Shots during our first session of play.  The next session, Steve had to leave the team, because he was getting married and simply didn't have the time.  We were sad to see him go, but understood his dilemma.  We soon welcomed Uli Wiederman (a German National) to the team.  Uli provided us with many comical language twists ("What-so-ever!") - we will always love and miss him!  Auf wiedersehn!  After his first session on the team, we changed the name from "The Diamond Long Shots" to "SNAFU" and the name has stuck ever since!  It's much more fitting for our team!

Following that session Uli left the team and later returned to Germany.  In the third session of play, Jason left the team and Mike Kindred and Dave Rumney joined us.  After his wife moved to town, they bought a house, his commitments became too much and he had to drop off after the following session.  Then my dear childhood friend, Beth, joined the team.  It's true what they say about how truly good friends come in and out of your life and it's like they never left.  I love you, Beth!  After her first session on the team, Mark and Peter also left the team.  It was a sad day when we were now left with only 3 original members.  Jason came back on the team for a time.  Diana joined us for the summer and Glenn and Kevin joined the team, but Cindy left to play 9 ball on Thursday nights.  Not long after, she married Paul - her soulmate (We love you, Paul!).

After only one session, Glenn left the team for family reasons.   Kevin was soon to follow due his work schedule.  The good news was that Cindy came back and brought Paul with her.  We also welcomed Stephen to the team.  So here we were with myself, Jason, Cindy, Paul, Mike, Dona, Beth, and Stephen.  With this dynamic, and often inept team, we managed to claw our way into first place.  We held first place all the way through the playoffs where we won the first match - only to lose the next two.  Jason saved the day by winning the 4th match to keep us in the running.  We went on to win 1st place, our first trophies, and the right to play in the Higher Level Tournament.  It was probably the most exciting thing to happen to most of us in a long time.

Unfortunately, Jason had to drop off the next session since his classes had become too demanding to grant the time to play pool.  This is when Ricky came into the picture.  Ricky joined our team at an extremely high point.  Lucky him!  Only now, he was the only member of the team to not have received a trophy.   At the end of the session, we were in 5th place and got a wildcard to play in the playoffs.  We beat the 4th place team and won the opportunity to play for 1st place against "Spank Dat Assh".  We won the first two matches and lost the third - sorry guys, my fault!  Ricky played the 4th match and wins 2-0!  In his first playoff match, being the only team member that didn't have a trophy, Ricky won the match for us, put us right back in first place and wins a trophy of his own!  Nicely done, Ricky!

I feel compelled to add that David has become a regular alternative whenever anyone needs a session off - we are loving having you on the team!  He is a proud new dad with a beautiful son and fabulous wife!  Congratulations to you all!

Also, in 2007, Gracia joined the team when Beth had to take care of other obligations - we are glad to have you!  Welcome to the family!  After 2 sessions, Gracia had to cut back (she plays both 8 and 9 ball) to one night and dropped off for a while.  Because we had an open slot, Peter came back and joined the team - welcome back, Peter!

We have had several rotations that are too crazy to list - suffice it to say that we are all like family.

Now we are up to date.  This is our current team:  myself (Deborah) as captain, Jason as co-captain (and my man), Dona (Cookie Dona & several sessions' MVP), Paul (Mr. Clean and our "heavy"), Cindy ("Loo Who"...one of the original udders - don't ask), John (monkey man - long story), Stephen (the masseuse), and Ricky (private dancer - again, don't ask).  We've come a long way and I am proud to have the opportunity the play with such a fine team.  This site is for you - all of you.  I love you.
